Vessi vs Allbirds Review: Which Waterproof Shoes are Better?

Updated on

If you’re in the market searching for the best waterproof running or travel shoes or simply everyday sneakers, you’ve probably come across these two brands; Vessi and Allbirds. These sneakers brands both give you the benefits in terms of comfort and breathability, but which one is better?

Based on eight categories, we have a breakdown of both brands to find out which one is better. However, it is very crucial to note that at the end of the day, you want to pick a specific shoe that matches your specific needs.

Waterproof Abilities

All Vessi shoes are 100% waterproof, but allbirds feature water resistance shoes. If you pour some water on both the vessi footwear and the Allbirds shoes, the water will most like slide off, but vessi sneakers tend to perform better.

A vessi shoe has a snug-fitting to your feet, with no room for water to enter, therefore keeping your feet dry. It integrates the Dyma-tex membrane technology into the material, which means that their waterproof shoes won’t a waterproof coating on the material, which might easily wear out after some time. Instead, the upper fabric itself is waterproof.

It is very important to note that both brands do not design shoes to be worn while swimming. This is because the areas where there are no waterproof materials might become wet. Most allbirds shoes are suited for walking or running around the city and may not be the best option if you’re planning to go on an adventure on rainy days.

Vessi shoes 100% waterproof, snowproof, sand proof, and windproof making them a great choice for all kinds of weather, including the cold weather. Moreover, they are more breathable and lightweight compared to the other traditional waterproof pairs like rubber boots.

Allbirds claims that they use carbon-neutral materials like natural materials. On the other hand, Vessi has managed to cut the knit times from 45 mins to 7 mins, and this has reduced the pairs of carbon footprint by approximately 600%.

Both Vessi and Allbirds are working every day to remain sustainable and lower the carbon footprint. Vessi has developed its own unique patented waterproof layer known as Dyma-tex material, made from polyurethane. The material features millions of pores that are not only small enough to prevent water molecules from getting in but also large enough to allow heat from the feet to escape freely.

All the shoes have a lifelong full waterproof feature that is free from harmful chemicals or materials. Allbirds, on the other hand, will measure their product emission, from the start to the end of manufacturing, to note the emission. They have tried to reduce these carbon emissions by using recycled and natural raw materials.

Materials and Fabric

When it comes to the materials, all Vessi shoes are made from 100% vegan materials, some latex, and plastics. They have used approximately 30% less water, 600% less energy consumption, and 97% less trim waste.

Allbirds are made from sustainably sourced materials, animal by-products, for example, merino wool and plant-based materials. Their shoelaces are also made from recycled plastic water bottles.

However, for people who have a latex allergy, these Vessi may not be the best option. Since they have a fully waterproof construction, the midsoles have been made from an ultralight EVA, and the outsoles, rubber.

On the other hand, Allbirds doesn’t have a latex allergy warning because their outsoles are made from a carbon-negative green EVA, SweetFoam™, and FSC® Certified natural rubber, which doesn’t contain protein and impurities that may lead to latex allergy.

Vessi has a great number of positive reviews when it comes to comfortability, especially for the Weekend sneakers. This is because they feature an easy slip-on design and wraps around the feet less tightly. Moreover, their outsoles are soft, flexible, and provide adequate cushioning. If you don’t like to wear socks, these shoes might be the best option.

On the other hand, Allbirds have very comfortable sneakers. However, they could do better in providing warmth during the cold seasons. They can also be worn without socks but may give an unpleasant smell after some time.

While most Vessi Footwear is machine-washable, Allbirds recommend hand washing their shoes for durability. However, you can also clean them using a gentle machine whenever they need deep cleaning. Both brands recommend air-drying; avoid using a dryer and bleach.

For Allbirds, it is recommended to size up while Vessi has proven to be true to size. You might not get wide sizes and also half sizes with most shoes from these brands. A half-size means a .5 size, for example, 8.5 or 4.5.

Arch Support

In terms of arch support, the Vessi tends to offer the strongest arch support. Their shoes are best suited for people who require extra comfort or are looking for travel shoes for an upcoming trip. They are great shoes for people who have flat feet because the toe box is well designed. Vessi soles are slip-resistant with 4-way traction that provides the necessary protection you need against slippery surfaces.

The Allbirds provide the best ankle support because their shoes tend to be taller and hug the ankles snuggly. They have a padded insole made from durable materials to provide arch support. Both brands have removable insoles, which means you can easily replace them with inserts or orthotics.

Return Policy

Vessi’s return policy states that buyers within North America may be allowed to return their new pair of Vessi within 60 days from the date of delivery. However, they should be in their original condition and coming with the packaging box.

Allbirds will come with a trial period of 30 days after every purchase, and refunds can only be allowed in the same country where you originally purchased the shoes.

Allbirds Vs. Vessi Footwear: Which one is Better?

Both Allbirds and Vessi feature excellent features, but the Vessi brand has proven to be better in most aspects. They are easy to wear, 100% waterproof, and comfy during a walk or stand. They also have several styles of shoes, from running shoes to the best travel shoes, which means that you can always find one within your budget.

Moreover, these waterproof sneakers are also super light and are great for walking in the rain. They have options available for both men and women. You can never go wrong with the Vessi style of shoes.
