25. New Balance M1260 Stability Running Shoe For Overweight Men

The name New Balance has become very popular in the last few years. It is a company that has a great understanding of how pronation works and how this affects your stride, whether you are walking, jogging or playing tennis.

This is just one pair from a really great series of runners and I recommend that you browse around in their wide range of shoes. However, I am reviewing this one now because I have a particular liking for it.

I will admit that these are fairly pricey, but with footwear… you get what you pay for. And I like this running sneaker because it’s top-notch.

This shoe will give you great support for big guys, which comes from New Balance’s awesomely advanced shoe technology. You are getting a perforated shell on the outer side. This will give you a great amount of cooling while you are running.

This is especially important for big guys, who tend to get warm quickly. It comes with a flexible sole. But despite the great flexibility, it will still give you great shock absorption and cushioning. It comes with an ABZORB cushion insole.

You can replace this with a custom insole if you like. But straight out of the box, it already absorbs shocks nicely.

If you have the tendency to roll your ankle a bit when you are stepping, then this would be a great shoe for you. It will make running a lot more comfortable. It is meant for people who have overpronation. This is one of the best running shoes for heavy men that you can currently buy.

The Best Jogging Sneakers For Overweight Guys: What Do You Need To Look For?

Naturally, you will always have to be looking for the right size in a shoe. It's easier when you are buying them locally in a brick & mortar store. But if you order them online, then you stand the risk of getting them a size too small or too large.

However, retailers such as Amazon have a 'fit as expected' rating for every shoe. So you simply have to look at that to estimate your chances of receiving the right size right away. Otherwise, you will simply have to exchange the shoes. Amazon never gives you any trouble with that.

With some insights into how to go about it, you too can find the best running, jogging, workout, crosstraining, or tennis shoes for overweight guys, no matter how heavy-set you may be. Whichever sport is your game, you'll be better at it in no time with good footwear.

1. Arch Support

When you are a tad bit on the heavy side, then odds are that you do not have as much arch to your foot as you need to. The direct result of this is that you will have to compensate for this with good support in your shoes.

If you do not do this, then you are going to have to have lots of pain in your feet, ankles, knees and all the way up to your legs. You can expect lots of joint problems down the road if you are not already taking it seriously.

Always be on the lookout for shoes that advertise themselves as having great support for your soles. Barefoot shoes might look tempting, but they do not give you any support whatsoever. I would simply ignore this whole fad and simply go with a decent pair of shoes.

2. Pronation

You will always need to be paying close attention to your pronation. Pronation isn't correct for everybody, since some people overpronate (legs tilt inward) and others under pronate (legs tilt outward). Mother nature has certainly dropped the ball on this when it comes to people with flat feet (of which I am one, thank you mother nature!).

So when mother nature has not been kind enough to give you a decent shock absorber, then you need support from your shoes. Your foot and ankle need to be rolling the exact right amount with every stride you take when hitting the ground.

Since fat guys have the tendency to overpronate, it becomes more important to get good support the heavier you are. Being overweight causes your feet to flatten out and this causes over-pronation in turn.

best shoes for overweight men

Good running shoes will give you the proper amount of shock absorption, or cushioning. They will help stabilize your gait. This in turn does a great job at keeping your knees healthy.

For people who overpronate, the shoes wear and tear on the inside. For people with under pronation, it is on the outside of the shoe. For people who have good pronation, the wear will form the shape of an S from heel to toes.

Fat guys who suffer from overpronation, are going to have got a shoe that gives extra support and stabilization. When you are a fat under pronator, then you are going to need some extra shock absorption.

Since most fat guys suffer from overpronation rather than under, most overweight running shoes will cater to the flat-footed overpronators.

3. Stability

Stability is exceedingly important to consider when choosing the shoes you want whether you're overweight or not. Even the best walking shoes allow you to walk comfortably without feeling like you're wobbling.

After all, you want to always feel confident as you're walking around. If you're not comfortable or stable, you won't take on the world with ease. This can affect your relations with people and even how you go about your activities.

4. Traction

In addition to stability, you need traction to protect you from slipping and falling. Therefore, as you consider the best shoes for walking and running, ensure that they will offer you the amazing traction you need to handle any surface.

If you can get walking shoes for overweight men with a roomy toe box and a slip-resistant sole, the better. This will allow you to use your walking shoes for overweight men anywhere and in any weather.

5. Cushioning

What is a walking shoe without comfort? Proper cushioning will give you the best experience that will make you forget that you're walking or even running. Whether you're wearing rubber walking shoes or any other type of walking shoes, you want to feel comfortable.

Therefore, ensure that the walking shoe you choose has the right amount of cushioning you need.

6. Breathability

Breathability is essential for walking shoes for overweight men. You don't want to get home and remove your shoes only to be hit with smelly air.

Breathability is essential because overweight people tend to sweat more profusely than the average person. This means that lots of heat and swat will be generated in your feet. The heat can be a problem on its own because it can cause your feet to swell.

Why? Because your veins will expand in an attempt to cool your body. Therefore, if your shoes are not breathable or are too tight, they can cause a lot of discomfort.

Ensure you choose shoes that have cooling properties and will keep your feet dry as you walk or run. We chose the best walking shoes for overweight men above, so we considered this factor in great detail.

Breathability will also keep other foot problems at bay including fungus, bacteria, and even athlete's foot.

7. Material

best shoes for overweight men

When we talk about the material, we mean the outsole, insole, and the upper part of your shoe. You need to consider the material you want for these parts because they can affect comfort, durability, stability, and even confidence.

Let's look at some shoe materials so that you can choose the best one for you.

a). Rubber Walking Shoes

A rubber sole is great for tracking and slip resistance. Therefore, if you intend to walk on the slippery ground while taking your walks, it's better to have some rubber walking shoes for overweight men.

When you're walking, your foot usually rolls from heel to toe. Therefore, having a sole that can handle this with grace will be a great idea.

b). Leather Walking Shoes

To be honest, leather doesn't actually sound like the most comfortable material when it comes to walking shoes. However, you may be surprised once you find a high-quality leather shoe that is actually comfortable.

The advantage of having a leather walking shoe is that it's durable and tends to last longer than most shoe materials. Nonetheless, keep in mind that it can be heavier than other shoe materials.

c). EVA Walking Shoes

EVA stands for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate. This is a lightweight material that has amazing shock absorption properties.

If you get a shoe that has EVA and rubber combines, you'll get to enjoy shock absorption and slip-resistance in an awesome way.

Therefore, to sum it up, if you are considering the material of the shoe to get remember that rubber is great for being non-slip, leather for durability, and EVA for shock absorption.

8. Padding

Outdoor walking shoes need to be extra comfy whether you have flat feet or have put on some extra weight. You want to be very and even super comfortable as you walk about the streets listening to music.

Because you are overweight, you need shoes that have enough padding to take on the extra weight. Cushioned shoes will ensure that you're always comfortable. You also get to protect your feet from any issues such as joint pain and foot pain.

What Foot Problems Should You Be On the Lookout for When Overweight?

shoes for overweight men

At Bootbomb, we care about more than your footwear. We also care very greatly about the health of your feet. This is why we are providing you with this information. We want you to choose the right shoes for your feet to prevent these foot problems.

And although choosing the right shoes is crucial, it's only half of the equation. The other half is being aware and thus preventing, any foot problems that may come as a result of being obese.

Here are a few to be on the lookout for.

1. Flat Feet

Why is flat feet dangerous? It is very dangerous as it can cause you pain as you stand or walk. This can make taking those favorite walks quite uncomfortable. The average person's foot is arched at its inner midpoint.

This arch is important because it provides you with balance and a reflective spring. So, how does being overweight affect this arch?

The extra weight weakens the ligaments and tendons on your ankles and feet. When your arches collapse, you get flat feet. This can cause pain when walking or even standing. If you feel like you've gotten to this stage, you can either wear orthotics or lose the extra weight.

2. Ankle Arthritis and Ankle Pain

Arthritis can easily affect you if you are overweight. Ankle arthritis comes as a result of the breakdown of cartilage. This is the connective tissue that covers your bones where they meet at joints.

When this cartilage wears out, you get ankle arthritis. Therefore, even as you go out on walks with these best walking shoes, ensure that you're not straining your feet. If you start to suspect or feel any pains or discomforts you can't explain, reach out to your doctor.

3. Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain

Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of your ligaments. These are the ligaments that run from your heel bone to your metatarsal bones. The metatarsal bones are found at the arch of your foot and are connected to your toes.

When these ligaments get inflamed, you will experience some serious heel pain and stiffness. You might usually feel this heel pain in the morning or when you get up after sitting for a while. Climbing stairs might also start to feel like a chore.

If you start to feel this pain, it's time to get these best flip-flops for Plantar Fasciitis. If you go to work often and want better shoes, you can get these work boots for Plantar Fasciitis. Ensure that you speak with your doctor before changing your shoes for the best advice.

4. Tendinitis

Tendinitis is somehow similar to Plantar Fasciitis above and involves inflammation of your foot tendons. The tendons of your feet and ankles can get inflamed due to the extra weight on them.

In addition to being similar to Plantar Fasciitis, tendonitis can also occur as a result of flat feet. This is because you will be putting g extra pressure and strain on the tendons causing them to inflame.

5. Bone Spurs

What is a bone spur? A bone spur refers to an outgrowth from a bone. This comes as a result of your body's effort to lessen friction between two bones that are grinding against each other.

Why are you likely to get these bone spurs if you are overweight? Because of the extra strain on your joints. Some of the very basic or common symptoms that can alert you that you need to get your feet checked include numbness, localized pain, tingling, and stiffness.

6. Diabetes

It's no surprise that diabetes has found its way into our list today. But, how does it relate to your feet?

Diabetes can compress and damage the nerves in your feet and the rest of your leg. It can also cause reduced blood flow to your feet. If you have any sores on your feet, they can easily become ulcerated and unable to heal on their own.

This can cause more complications. If you begin to feel numbness on your feet, it's time o see your physician.

You can also read up on some ways to treat diabetic nerve pain to gain some insight into the condition.

7. Peripheral Artery Disease

This condition refers to the accumulation of fatty deposits in your arteries. Unfortunately, this foot condition can have some dire consequences. Some of these include reduced blood flow to your brain and heart, and legs and feet.

Some symptoms to be check for include coldness, numbness, and sores that won't heal. If you suspect that you have this foot condition, it's time to get another walking shoe and book an appointment with your doctor.

8. Gout

If you eat lots of red meat or shellfish, it's time to rethink your diet. Gout is caused by an accumulation of uric acid crystals right in the joints of your feet.

Your big toe is unfortunately the one most likely to be affected by this condition. If not caught early or treated immediately, the pain can be extremely excruciating.

Fortunately, you don't have to immediately lose all the extra weight if you gave this condition. Starting with less red meat in your diet can make a great difference.

We don't tell you about these foot problems to scare you. We'd like you to be aware so that even as you choose the best walking shoe for you, you can be on the lookout for them. After all, we care about your foot health just as we care about your footwear.

About the Author

Hi, I’m Brian Bradshaw. I’m a super duper mega hiking enthusiast, with a love for everything that has to do with outdoors, hiking, gear, footwear and more.

      1. I grew up calling all shoes tennis shoes, so I get it, just like all soda is Coke.

This is a very helpful article, thank you. I’m 6′ 2″ 265 and dealing with shin splints. I ended up with a pair of Asics GT-2000 4 from your list. They are perfect – night and day better for me than Mizuno Wave Inspires I had, which are also on the list. Guess you just have to see what works for you.

        1. Hi Kyle,

Thanks for coming back to let us know your experience!

I’ve switched from Asics to Mizuno myself, and wouldn’t go back. It just goes to show… different strokes for different folks!

Man, it’s hot around here. I’m grabbing myself a soda. And by that I mean coke.

          Sincerely,

          Brian

    1. Same reason people refer to an electronic world wide web interface as a computer. It’s not computing anything, yet they’re called computers. Why are you freaking out about whether a shoe is a tennis shoe or a running shoe? Can’t believe that actually bothers you dude!

  1. I’m surprised you didn’t review the Brooks Beast. Since it is one of the best motion control shoes and very often recommended for big runners. As big guy over 300 pounds, I have completed 7 half marathons. Most of which I wore the Brooks Beast and was pleased with the overall performance of the shoe.

    1. Hi Patrick,

Thanks for mentioning the Brooks Beast. I took a look at them and they look pretty promising.

I am updating my pages constantly. Who knows, a future update might very well include the Brooks Beast!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

    2. Absolutely! It should be carefully considered as one of the first “go to” shoes for heavier runners. Built to last, with ultimate motion control.

      1. Hi Howard,

        Thanks for your concern.

I do not get paid for reviews. I myself select which footwear to review. I’m compensated by Amazon for any sales that I generate, though.

As of now, I have been working on this site for 3 years and have 800,000 words on it. Couldn’t have done that for free, man.

        Hope that makes sense.

I will include the Brooks soon!

        Sincerely,

        Brian

  2. what about Hoka one one shoes? Is this a good line of shoes for big runners?

    1. Hi Jerrald,

Thanks for pointing out Hoka. I hadn’t heard of them until just now.

I’ve just checked them out on Amazon and I must say… they look really good to me.

Based on those reviews, I would buy a pair in a heartbeat!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

    2. Hoka’s were developed by ultra runners. They do have a nice wide base that lends itself nicely to heavier runners. They are also maximal shoes in that they have plenty of cushion, however the designers keep them lightweight. You do run the risk, however, of breaking down that Hoka cushion a little faster. Keep in mind that ultra cushion isn’t always the best thing for you. Too much can cause you to sink and pull your feet up. I noticed that Hoka’s were easier on my feet, but a little more stressful on my knees and hips.

      1. Can you please explain what you mean by “sink and pull your feet up”?

        Thanks.

    3. Jerrald,

I just bought a pair of Clifton 4’s. I am 6’4″ 250 and they are absolutely comfortable. They say they will last about 400 miles, which seems to be pretty close for the cushioned shoes. Lots of color options as well.

  3. Do you have any suggestions for me? I’m 6’7″ 450+ and all of my shoes have ended up under pronating. In most shoes I wear a 16 4E. Most of the ones you have listed that I haven’t tried stop at 15.

    1. Hi Chris,

I take it by 450 you mean 450 lbs?

A big guy such as yourself might want to go for really sturdy footwear such as work boots for walking in.

At 450 lbs, losing weight with a few frequent walks per week is easier than you think. And once you’ve done so, you won’t be overpronating so much anymore!

Make sure to get good insoles as well!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  4. I think you are way off base. The fact that you haven’t included the Brooks Beast or the Saucony Redeemer is borderline criminal. And I’m not sure where on Earth you’ve come up with the Nike Free line. That is the exact opposite of what heavy runners need. Heavier runners typically over-pronate as a result of collapsed arches, and more times than not need built in, heavy duty support to withstand the beating. I say this because I have a ton of experience selling running shoes to many people. Honestly, if I let one of my heavy customers walk out the door with a pair of Free’s, I’d find another line of work quick like.

    1. Chad,

I see you helping out people with good advice all over this page, including myself!

I welcome your insights, I really do. I have made a note of the Brooks Beast and the Saucony Redeemer. And also the fact that you feel the Nike Frees are no good for heavy runners.

For a long time, my family has run a shoe store. It was a multi generation business. It closed up over 25 years ago. I’m a little out of it since then. But I really do appreciate that you come here and take your time to write down your solid advice.

I’ve learned from it. I hope my readers will, too. And this page will be updated accordingly in the future!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

    1. I’m sure you mean Mizuno. And yeah, they are great. I’m wearing them too these days!

  5. Well, at the beginning of the article you said you’d review the 5 best, but you don’t specify which 5 they are in the 25 that you reviewed. Hard to differentiate which ones you like best as you seem to be full of praise for all of them. But they can’t all be the best, can they?

    1. Hi Jim,

The reason it says that, is because this page used to have only 5 shoes on it. I expanded the content, but neglected to modify the introduction to mirror the update.

Thanks for pointing this out. I will update the intro!

It’s true that they’re all good. But that’s because I don’t want to waste my readers’ time by showing them subpar footwear. I only select shoes for review that are actually good.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  6. Brian,
I am surprised you have the Saucony Cohesion listed as a shoe for heavy runners/walkers. They are a nice shoe and very lightweight, but they lack sufficient cushioning and support for heavy guys. I have owned a pair and weighing in at about 230 lbs they felt really good for maybe a month. This was not a month worth of heavy use either. The midsole and arch support get flattened out very quickly. The Saucony Guide, Brooks Adrenaline, and Brooks Beast (in my opinion) should be at the top of the list.

Also you may want to take a look at Altra shoes. They have a wider toebox that may be beneficial to some of your readers.

    1. Hi Charles,

You certainly aren’t the first person to mention the Brooks Beast and Adrenaline. I will make sure to include them soon. As well as Mizuno, because dagnabbit… those Mizunos are some good shoes!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

      1. I’m an obese women looking for something that won’t leave the balls of my feet sore after 20 minutes of jogging. Thinking of trying the Asics Gel Ventures after seeing this list. I often find myself stopping because my feet are feeling sore rather than because I couldn’t go a little longer. 😛 I always try to be careful of my joints, including the ones in my toes, so when they start hurting I stop. It’s putting a damper on my weight loss goals.

        1. Hi Lisa,

On the upside, when you lose weight, foot pain related problems tend to go away due to a combination of muscles becoming stronger and not having to carry so much weight anymore.

If you want to ensure you have optimum support, go with Tread Labs insoles. They are awesome.

          Sincerely,

          Brian

  7. I’m on my feet for 16hrs a day, should I get Running shoes or walking?

    1. Hi Jeremy,

16 Hours a day? That’s a long time to have to stand up. I take my hat off for you, sir!

To answer your question: it’s entirely up to you. Running shoes often offer great support and are just really comfy. If you prefer to walk and stand on running shoes, that’s perfectly fine.

However, if you’re looking for walking shoes for standing, follow the link. That page will show you another type of footwear that’s also good for people on their feet all day.

Whichever pair of shoes you end up going with, make sure to complement them with a good pair of insoles.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  8. SUPER article. Thx. One recommended change…delete reference to “overweight”, inserting “BIG”. Rationale…BIG refers to all large individuals, encompassing overweight AND those who are not overweight. FYSA, found a shoe on the list, ASICS Contend 3, for $33. SWEET deal.

    1. Hi Geo,

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep it in mind.

And yeah, those ASICS Contend 3 are sweet!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  9. I found this article looking for more options and I want to add one to your list. The Columbia Montrail Caldorado. I have had two pairs now and get between 180-240 miles out of them (which for me being 6’0″ 265 athletic build with a little to much belly) is pretty good. I try to run 3-4 times/week 4-6 miles. I am also had the Mizuno Wave Inspire and Wave Creations. The Inspire felt better but the Creation lasted longer. I am going to give the NB mentioned above.

Thank you very much for the article! I really felt like I was alone in my search and issues for clothes and shoes. Every running store I go to is filled with 140# guys who have no idea what it means to be a fluffy guy that runs LOL Thanks again

    1. Hey Chris,

      Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I know the feeling, man. I used to be pretty ‘fluffy’ myself in my younger years. Keep running often enough and you’ll be thin before you know it, though!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  10. Hey Brian,

Great article full of helpful information.

I’ve had several pairs of Brooks Beast, so I feel qualified to offer this suggestion. If you think those are the shoes for you, go to a running store where they have expertise in fitting runners with shoes. To quote a guy at Dick’s the last time I bought a pair, “Have you had these shoes before? If not, be careful because they can really screw your ankles up”. He speaks the truth. I now wear the Mizuno Wave Creation. To be clear, I’m not saying don’t buy the Beast, just make sure they are the right shoe for you.

    Jon

    1. Hi Jon,

Thanks for the feedback. You say you’ve owned several Brooks Beasts, so I’m guessing they didn’t screw up your ankles?

How are you liking the Mizunos?

      Sincerely,

      Brian

      1. Hi Brian,

“Screw up” sounds quite harsh(I know those were my words) but I can honestly tell a difference when I bounce back and forth from my Mizuno Wave Creations to the Beasts, and I think the Brooks ultimately were not the right shoes for me. I still have a pair that I wear to mow in, so yeah, if your readers think this is the shoe for them, have someone at a running store check them.

I love the Mizunos, and in fact that is all I buy now.

        Thanks again for the article,
        Jon

        1. Hi Jon,

I hear you, bro. Once you go Mizuno, it’s hard to go back!

Thanks for the kind words. Please tell your friends! 😀

          Sincerely,

          Brian

  11. Hye Brian,

Are you putting it based on the ranks? or, It is just a list of the best 25?

    1. Hi Nurdin,

They are a cherrypicked selection of the finest shoes by review ratings!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  12. Hi Brian,
Great article and it’s exactly what I was looking for but i can’t choose which one to go for i hope you can or one of the reader can guide me.

I’m 5’11” and 335lbs trying to get a more active lifestyle i usually buy the asics nimbuz is my go to shoes for the past 5yrs but to be honest they burn a hole in my wallet and i use them as an everything / day shoes.

Recently i switch to newbalance 880v7 and i liked them at first but now not so much.

I know I’m a bit heavy and i wear out the shoes very quickly.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Waleed,

You should definitely try out the Mizuno Wave Inspire 9. Mizuno is too awesome to pass up on!

Another one that is highly recommended by my readers, is the Brooks Beast. Haven’t tried it out myself. But as you can see in the comment section, people are loving it!

Also, be sure to get good insoles. They will distribute your feet’s weight more evenly, which takes pressure off of one area of your shoe, which then wears out the fastest.

In my younger years, I used to be on the heavy side as well. Eating less food will spare your wallet right away. As a result of being lighter, your shoes will wear slower, which also saves you money in the long run.

If you’re going to buy a pair of excellent shoes, be sure to put them to good use!

Let me know how it goes for you, my friend.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  13. Hey Brian question for you,

I am thinking of grabbing a pair of the mizuno waves. In here you specifically mention the 9; however, I can’t seem to find a 9 in my size. Are the newer models just as good or.abould I continue to search for a 9?

    1. Hi Joey,

Every Mizuno wearing friend of mine that I asked about how he liked his Mizunos, has been very positive about them.

If the 9 isn’t available in your size, I would simply go with another model that also gets rave reviews.

It’s hard to go wrong with Mizuno!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  14. Hi Brian,
I am 5.479 ft and 187 lbs. Could you please suggest me shoes for running wrt cushioning and durability.
    Thanks,
    KKK

    1. Hi KKK,

Most, if not all of the shoes on this list meet your requirements. They all get good reviews.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  15. Many people seem to be focusing on over-pronating for heavy folks. Is there a shoe that would benefit the opposite direction with over-supination? I’m 6’5 and 295.

      1. Saucony Cohesion 9 is terrible for heavy people, I tried them and its like walking on soft foam with terrible support for over-supination!

        1. Hi Stan,

Experiences differ from person to person. But I appreciate you taking the time to give us your feedback!

          Sincerely,

          Brian

  16. I’m a short fat guy 5’8″ 230 underpronate with a size 8ish shoe. I want a high cushioning shoe to run short distances to lose weight. What do you recommend?

    1. Hi Don,

I think you’re going to love the Brooks Adrenaline from this list. I am wearing it right now and I’m loving every second of it!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  17. Hi Brian, thank you for this article on shoes for heavy people. I’m a woman, but always wear men’s shoes because I’m 5’8″ and 245 currently. I recently bought a pair of Altra Timp. They’re the best shoes I’ve EVER worn. 3 things I like about them: the expansive toe box that allows them to spread and grip the trail, the neutral sole, and the grippy treads. I’m not a runner, but I hike on trails and walk to work daily. Not much arch support so I wear them with Tread Labs insoles. Highly recommend these shoes to your readers.

    1. Hi Patty,

Thanks for showing me the Altra Timps. Had never heard of them before. They look pretty solid though…

And about those Tread labs… I am also recommending them to my readers! 😉

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  18. Hoping you can help me out. I am the destroyer of shoes. I mean that literally I buy a pair of shoes and my feet are hurting 4-6 days later and the shoes are toast 2-6 weeks later.

I am 420 pounds 6″4″ tall 12.5 WIDE feet and I walk 5-7 miles per day 5 days a week. (it is helping me lose weight lost 60+ pounds 200 more to go)

right now I wear crocs. call it crazy but I buy a new pair every 3 months max sometimes 2 months. and they are the only shoes so far that don’t destroy my feet. (I suspect the very thick foam compresses and pushes up into my foot giving me the more rigid but still giving support I need)

VERY good solid shoes like my danner boots are also very comfortable but I can’t afford to daily drive $250 boots. I have no idea how long they would last and It would kill me if I killed them in 4 or 5 months.

new balance makes some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. but they are crazy expensive and last about 1 week. no joke. 1 week. I literally tear them apart.

any suggestions for shoes that don’t cost more than $40 and will last 3 months under that kind of usage and give me the support I need? or more money if it really will last longer.

I would not mind $200 if I knew for certain I could get 1.5 to 2 years out of them.

    1. Hi Chris,

First of all, let me congratulate you on your epic weight loss. I used to be a pretty big guy as well. I just so happens that I’ve also lost 60+ lbs, so we can shake hands on that one.

Sorry to hear you are wearing out your shoes so quickly.

The bad news is that you can’t really expect quality shoes for $40. If you’re shopping in that budget, they’re not supposed to last a long time.

The good news is that more expensive shoes will last way longer. Or at least they’re supposed to. Your also supposed to get a better price/performance out of expensive shoes. The bad news is that expensive shoes are more expensive. I know… duh, right? 😛

The bad news is also that no shoe salesman is going to let you try a pair of $150 shoes for a few weeks and take’em back if you destroy them. So it looks like you’ll have to risk it.

The good news is that you’ll find that your shoes will start lasting longer if you lose more weight. So make sure to keep going with that.

New Balance is super comfortable. But I’m currently wearing Brooks GTS 18 and they’re totally amazeballs as well. Most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn!

When it comes to shoes, you won’t find your solution at the $40 price point. You’ll definitely have to go >$100 if you’re serious about quality. With footwear, you get what you pay for.

If you’re afraid of destroying them quickly, try to find a manufacturer that is known for being willing to send replacements when their footwear gives out too fast. You can find these by finding reviews on Amazon that make mention of that. Finding such a manufacturer would give you some peace of mind, no?

Also, I know the perfect insoles for you. I highly recommend Tread Labs.

Those Tread Labs will be a one off payment, because they last forever. They’re essentially solid, synthetic support pads.

Sure, you’ll have to replace the soles themselves, but the support pads… for me they’re not showing any sign of wearing out after 2 years of wearing them.

      I hope this helps!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  19. Hi Brian-

I tried to use your Contact Us area to write you directly but it is not working. Thought I’d let you know that first.

    Second:
What is confusing to me about this article is that the # 1 shoe on the list has only 4 stars where the # 3 shoe on the list has 5 stars. Is your list not prioritized in order of it’s rating? Usually the # 1 item on a review is the highest rated, and so down the list it goes. Can you help me out on this? I am not “that” hung up on price (unless it is ridiculous). So, my first concern is comfort and support. I am 6′ 1″ and weigh around 238 which is about 30-40 pounds overweight. I need to address this and will need to start walking and hiking, and possible running some to kick start my program. What shoe should best fit my frame for my walking and hiking requirements? I am in AZ so the terrain will vary from concrete to desert hikes and sometimes mountain hikes. I don’t see myself doing to much running as I really do not enjoy running.

    Thanks!
    Jamz

    1. Hi Jamz,

Thanks for letting me know about the contact form. I have fixed the problem and now it works again.

As for the ratings not being in order… when footwear goes onto Boot Bomb’s review pages, I will usually have it sorted by popularity, as measured by the number of Amazon reviews that a product has. However, this changes all the time, ofcourse. I’ve seen Amazon product pages get hundreds of reviews purged, so it’s bound to be ‘out of order’ at one point.

The ratings that Boot Bomb’s products get, are subjective. Since we’re already attempting to order by popularity, we can’t also order by ratings. One thing we do do, however, is only review the very best products, because we see no point in wasting our readers’ precious time by showing them sub par footwear.

As for your footwear related question… you can literally go with any shoe on this page that you like. I’m a big fan of Mizuno and Brooks, too. If you need hiking shoes, then the sneakers presented here aren’t the best fit. For hiking, you really have to check out this review page instead.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  20. Love these shoes!!! I first discovered these at a local shoe store. I’m normally a size 8 or 8.5 depending on the brand of shoe and the 8’s fit me perfectly with thin (or no) socks. If you wear slightly thicker socks, you may want to go up a half size. I promptly wore these for 3 days straight at Disneyland after only wearing them for about a week prior and had zero blisters!! They were so comfortable! When I got back, I returned to the store to buy the other 2 colors but was disappointed to find out that they did not have my size in stock. Amazon comes through once again! Found the other colors in my size with free Prime shipping. One other thing to note, these are more of a slip on shoe. There are laces but you don’t need to undo them to get the shoe on or off. There is no tongue like a normal shoe so the laces seem more like a decoration. They can tighten the shoe somewhat though if you feel that are too loose.

  21. Hi Brian,

I’m a big guy 6’3″ 370 lbs and I’m starting a plan to lose weight. I had reviewed some shoes and make the list short to two options: ASICS Mens Gel-Venture 6 and ASICS Mens Gel-Contend 4. Which one do you recommend me most? I have underpronation in my left foot that make me lose shoes frequently.

    1. Hi Hector,

They are both extremely good and popular shoes. I honestly can’t recommend one over the other.

They aren’t specifically for supinators, though. If you want shoes that are good for under pronation, then you may also want to check out the ASICS Gel-Quantum 180 3.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  22. Could you send me a brochure on your products as it is for my husband who has diabetes and mobility problems so it’s better for him to be able to see pictures of things on paper you see

    1. Hi Joanne,

Unfortunately, we do not send out brochures. Maybe you can use a smartphone, tablet or laptop to show to your husband?

Best of luck to you and your husband.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  23. Hello Brian
I didn’t see the New Balance Vongo v3 in this review. I’ve read that is a very good shoe for people with flat feet. Would you recommend this shoe for heavy runners?

    1. Hi Joy,

      You mean these?

      Would I ever!

They receive solid reviews and they look like they’ve got equally solid soles. So yeah, I’d totally wear that, whether I was overweight or not.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  24. I’m an ex college distance runner and sub 2:20 marathon runner, now 10 years later I’m seriously 243 and 5’9 my friends don’t recognize me if I bump into them and even if they do they think I’ve been in a car wreck! Haaa HAAA.. seriously not kidding don’t get married just don’t do it, but these shoes I’ve found are like having waterbeds under your feet and I HATE the entire minimalist movement personally(no offense to anybody) however I used to be sponsored by a large running company that stated what I always knew and that’s “we can charge a car payment for shoes that appear to have alot of absorption” but even now desperately trying to even run a 9 minute mile when It seemed like yesterday I was running 4:35’s holding conversations I’ve realized all that extra foam is making my running harder kinda retarding my forward momentum… well that and my huge ass of course, but anyways my ex training partner owns running shop in Chicago sent me over these Sketcher brand (never in billion years would Ieven think about buying them let alone for running) and the models called go run walk something like that, neutral trainer I believe and racing flat size and weight, but the foam rubber formula whatever omg! Like SPRINGS and my gait went back to forward propulsion! So Sketchers or whatever brand just saying don’t ger caught up in buying shoes with a Casper mattress underneath for 160 bucks, it’s doing nothing for you except maybe…I dunno, good luck to everybody running and dont stop like I did to take up a career that makes enough money to support the anti christ like I did, AWESOME WEBSITE….. looking forward to losing my ass and the great satan I’m married to really soon! Keep up the great work man

    1. Hi Tommy,

Sounds like you’re dealing with a lot currently.

Thanks for the kind words and I hope you’ll lose what you want to lose and gain what you want to gain. Be sure to let me know how it ended between you and the missus!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  25. I can’t seem to find the Salomon 3’s, but the 4’s are hugely popular – any comments?

    1. Hi Shawn,

The Salomon Speedcross 3’s are available on Amazon at the time of writing.

There are also versions 4 and 5 available of this shoe. They’re all good stuff.

      Generally speaking, Salomon doesn’t disappoint.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  26. Thanks for the informative article that actually really is applicable to many men… including myself. After 22 years of Army running 3 to 5 days a week for 2 to 6 miles, I was done!! I’ve always been heavy. Graduated basic at 212 lbs and ended my career at 240. Now 5 years later I’ve hit the 300 mark. I’ve always destroyed running shoes Nike lasts just a few months for me but I haven’t used them in a decade. High end New Balance and Brooks were my go to running shoes. One shoe that’s not in the article that I think deserves your look is the ON Cloud. Light, comfortable, supportive and can hold up to punishing weight. And they’re good looking shoes! They’re all that I wear now.

    1. Hi David,

Having been overweight in the past myself, I feel your pain, my brother.

I agree with you about the Brooks shoes. Those are really good, and currently my personal go to shoes.

I hadn’t looked at the On Clouds before. They look like really nice shoes. I would definitely be interested in reviewing those.

      Thanks for the heads up!

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  27. This information, despite “2020” in the title is terribly out of date. Most of the shoes listed are no longer available.

    1. Hi Ed,

Thanks for bringing us up to date. We have yet to upgrade our reviews to 2021, and will do so in the coming week or two.

I just checked the availability of the shoes above, and it turns out that 21 out of 25 are currently available. And unavailable shoes sometimes once again become available.

      Sincerely,

      Brian

  28. Hello , I want to buy a pair today and don’t know what to choose from,
I’m 6’4 , 285 pounds, and have super flat feet , I want to start cardio and running and I want the best shoes cause I’m afraid hurting my knees, I don’t car about fashion just the best possible shoes for me please .
Thank you very much for your article .

    1. Forget to tell you that I will only run on flat surface, I bought a treadmill and will be walking and running on it and maybe outside in the road but no mountain or anything .

      1. Hi Ahdi,

Pretty much all shoes on this page are suitable for a guy such as yourself. Since just about every running shoe has removable insoles, I recommend that you put Tread Labs in them.

These are the absolute best insoles there ever were. Been wearing them for years, myself. Never going back to anything else!

        Sincerely,

        Brian

  29. I am looking for competitive race times for runners who are in the heavyweight + category!!
    For me (males 226 pounds+ PRs: 2.5KM 11:39 3KM 13:56 5KM 22:58 8KM 39:15 and 10 KM 45:53).
    Let me know ASAP!
    THANX

    1. Hi Christopher,

Go for the Brooks Adrenalines. It’s like walking on air.

      Sincerely,

      Brian
