Wear their no bone have a screw in the outside of it wear the doctor gave me to many shots.then I had to have it fit again because it turn to the outside left cause me to develope very bad calluse under my foot.       I don’t think New Balance makes a particular model for your specific condition!

      You did, however, mention a problem with bunions. And it just so happens that the M1540V2 has a bunion window. Check out the reviews for the men’s version of this (which I have on this page) on Amazon and you’ll see a guy saying good things about what this shoe did for his bunions.

      Luckily, Amazon also offers the women’s M1540V2!

Over the passed year I walk the least possible, had shockwave and dry needling therapy, stretch, excersise, had gel insoles and special insoles made. Unfortunately t hasnt got any better…..

    • Do exercises 3 x daily. Exercises on U Tube. Need arch support. Go to a foot dr. and get injections of cortisone at sights. Ice it. Foot dr. will provide temporary insoles with arch support. Takes a while but it works. I see you have special insoles. Wear them all the time and never go bare foot. Have shoes ready to put on when you get out of bed. Read up on it and don’t give up.

  3. Thanks very much for the great info. I’ve always had trouble with my feet for as long as I can remember and on the search for some good shoes that provide good support and look good too. I’m a teacher so need to find a pair that I can wear to work daily but also looking for a workout pair that look nice enough to also wear casual with jeans etc.

    Are there any you’d particularly suggest for high arches and wide feet?

      If you’re looking for good NB shoes for wide feet that you can also wear casually, then might I suggest the W990V4?

  5. Hi Brian,
    I came across your Boot camp page while researching wide fitting New Balance walking shoes and began reading the issues people are having with Plantar Fasciitis. Back in 2007/2008 I got these incredible foot pains and a week or so later could hardly walk. I went to A&E where an Orthopedic doctor gave me a pain killer injection directly into the area of pain in my foot. The injection hurt and it didn’t have any noticeable effect on the pain. A week or so later, I was at my Chiropodist’s and described the pain I was experiencing (I think it was my right foot, it’s a long time ago). Immediately he said “that’s plantar fasciitis” and proceeded to apply ‘Kinesio tape’ to the foot.

    Maybe I was incredibly lucky because, in 2 to 3 days with this tape on, the pain was completely gone! About 4 years later the pain came back, but not as strong as before. This time I bought the tape myself and followed the instructions from videos on YouTube! The pain went away again and I haven’t had it since.

    Here’s a link to the Kinesio UK website and a page which shows ‘pre-cut’ packs especially for plantar fasciitis (I learned to cut the tape into the required shapes myself).

    It’s important to read and follow the instructions precisely before applying the tape and many Physiotherapists have been on courses and are trained in how to apply Kinesio tape.

    I have no idea if it will work for anyone else and you’re probably thinking how could something as non-intrusive as this tape have such a powerful effect. I don’t know (some explanation is given on the Kinesio website) and can only say it worked unbelievably well for me, on two occasions, which is why I am sharing this with you and your readers (It also worked one time when I tried to take up jogging and got ‘shin-splint’ after two weeks). I hope it may be of some help to people suffering with plantar fasciitis. All the best.

  6. I wonder if you could help with my query about a walking shoe. Do you know if the New Balance MX624AB4 Cross Training Shoes are suitable for walking 10 miles a day, every day, on flat roads? Where I live it is very difficult to come across wide fitting shoes and the MX624AB4’s are the only size 12, wide fitting 4E shoes that New Balance offer where I live. Thanks.

      I’ve found the MX624AB4 on the Amazon UK store. They are listed as ‘multi sport indoor shoes’.

      So maybe not ideal for the outdoor use that you are thinking of.

      However, if you’re stuck between a rock and a hard place and you think these shoes might work well for you… then I’d simply give them a shot!

      It’s hard to go wrong with New Balance.



  7. Hi Brian,I just bought the woman NB 990 V4 and NB 940 V3,just walking around in my suite,such a differnce in the 2, which one is best for PF fro my left foot where the problem is
    I have low arch,flat feet,pain on top of my left foot too,the 990 feels more comfortable there I feel my heel more with the 940,but wunder is that my best bet to feel that to get rit of my PF or the painless 990,wow stressed out of wanting to buy the right one,I know the 940 has the T Beam,what I feel I suppose,TIA

      Both the 990 and the 940 are really great shoes!

      In order to get a feel for which one is best for your PF, walk around on both pairs for a few weeks and notice the effects.

Thanks; I already have two pairs of NB (and countless other branches) – but none of them make it possible for me to even go for a walk If at all, the MBT work best, but they are a bit wobbly and do not feel secure. I just survive during my workday – and only because I can sit much of the time. Household chores are a pain and are often left undone. Have you got any suggestions – the shoes would be used indoors more than out

      If NB shoes simply aren’t working for you, then you may want to look at a different brand instead.

      Take my page on standing shoes, for example. I also have Skechers work shoes, if that’s more your thing. If you’re dead serious about standing firmly, then you could also have a look at my work boots section.

  9. I have had PF for years and found that Orthoheel Vionic as well as New Balance shoes work well. But what should be the life of these shoes if I walk everyday for one hour? It seems that after about 3 or 4 months the pain comes back. And the shoe does not look to be worn out. It can be very costly!

    • Hi Nancy,

      The life of your footwear greatly depends on a number of factors, such as:

      • The weight they have to bear
      • The terrain you walk on
      • Your foot stance
      • Etc.

      It would help if your footwear would last a little longer than 4 months. Because those Orthoheels sure do have their price!

      Have you tried using third party insoles, such as Tread Labs?

      They never wear out.

      I’ve been using them for a long time myself now. Ever since I started using them, my gait feels more stable, my knees feel more healthy and I have noticed a decrease in my footwear’s wear & tear.

      If all else fails, contact Orthoheels directly to ask them for tips. And please… come back later and let me and my readers know how it went!



  10. Suffering from plantar faciitis. Are New Balance W635RB2 shoes good for this condition. I just bought a pair and they feel pretty good, but I want to make sure they are the right type of shoe for my problem. I am putting a cushy heel insert in them also.

  11. Hi, I need to walk more for exercise and to loose weight. Can you please recommend a shoe? I have a wide foot, PF, underpronation, and am obese. Thanks, Lynn

      I’d give the Skechers Go Trail a shot if I were you. You can find them here.

      I just hope they’re wide enough for you. It’s hard to find a shoe with such specific requirements.

      Should this shoe have a replaceable insole, then I recommend Tread Labs for the ultimate support. They have good heel cups, which should help your PF.

  12. Hi Brian.
    Four years ago I was fit and healthy, including my BMI until I became full time carer to a family member.
    I endured prolonged stress for three and a half years. I have come away from this situation 30 kilos over weight and for a year I have been experiencing Plantar Fascia pain, some weeks the flare up’s render me unable to leave the house.

    I have had two cortisone injections into the site of heel pain which did not make a difference despite me following the after care down to a “T”.
    Under a Podiatrist I have had dry needling and do daily intrinsic exercising. The exercises have definitely made a small difference, but some weeks I am still debilitated and house bound..I have had to leave my job and I only wear Birkenstock thongs, which both help, for now.

    I have researched the web and came across yourself(feeling rather excited I might add) after researching New Balance sneakers (a recommendation from my podiatrist). I have felt like I’m in a tricky financial situation until my Mum gave me some money for my Birthday “to get the correct footwear” . My largest concern is I do not have the funds to be “trialing” what I think might be best for me.

    I’ve got one chance to make a positive shift with this money I have been given. Would you suggest an innersole with my New balance sneakers or go straight into a sneaker alone? And which ones do you suggest for doing half hour light weight training a few times a week, walking for exercise and retail work, 2 eight hour shifts two days a week. My foot issue has had me change my life, I have been studying to change my career!

    Oh, on a positive note, the last ultrasound shows no scar tissue! Very promising!

      By inner sole I think you mean insole. And yes, I have a great recommendation.

    I have arthritic toes, so pressure on it hurts. I have narrow feet, but have been wearing medium width. Sometimes my arch hurts too. I have tried Dr. Scholl custom and other brand supportive insoles. I remember one pair of New Balance walking? shoes which I don’t remember the model I got them probably in 2012, they were brown suede, if that helps. They had a nice foam? insole with a nice arch area. I believe I have normal arches.

    My knees also bother me. I work standing and also walking at my two p/t jobs.

      In 2016, I started wearing Tread Labs insoles and I have never looked back.

      I used to have some knee related problems, too. But the Tread Labs really helped to increase my knee health.

    I have Plantar Fasciitis and it has totally stopped me in my tracks!!! Podiatrist did not help !!!! So I just bought New Balance 860 V.10 is this the correct shoes for me? If so do I need an insert also?

  15. The bottom of my left foot was hurting when I would get up from sitting over the last 3 to 5 months. I just started walking 2 miles everyday starting in April. My left foot started hurting about a month or 2 after I started. I just saw my Podiatrist yesterday and she said I have plantar fasciitis. She gave me a cortisone shot and it helped right away. She also gave me some exercises to do twice a day. I have some other problems with my right foot (long toe and something else) so I wear a custom made orthotic in both my right and left shoes. I wear New Balance men’s 608v5 cross trainer shoes for several years now. However, remember I just started walking everyday in April 2020. So I really can’t change my orthotic only my shoe. Is what I am wearing good enough for my plantar fasciitis or do I need to a different New Balance shoe?

    • Hi Mark,

      New Balance is good stuff. But they’ll wear out, eventually, just like any other pair. Check the soles to be sure. If they’re worn, you’re going to need a new pair.

      Listen to your podiatrist. Have her advise you on a good pair of shoes. She’s treating you, personally. She can help you better than I can via this comment section.
